Perfect Wedding Suit
Picking out a
wedding suit may seem simple, straightforward or perhaps even confusing to
some. While it may seem simple, there are many factors to consider when
selecting the right suit to wear down the aisle. Let me tell you why it may not
be as straightforward as it seems.
What to consider when purchasing a wedding suit
In my experience, it’s not common for the groom to stress over the little
details and can often overlook these things. It’s important for the bridal party
to look consistent, but you might be asking, how do we achieve this?
Before you purchase your
suit, ask yourself the following questions:
Will your suit match the color theme of the wedding?
If you’re not going suit shopping
with your fiancé and she trusts you to buy your own suit, or you want to
surprise her, this is very important. Will your suit match the color theme of
the wedding? It’s safe practice to wear a
black tuxedo, but it is becoming increasingly common to see textured suits
in tan and cream.
Keep in mind that your suit should accommodate for the bridesmaids’ dresses as
your accessories will ideally match their color.
Will your suit be the same as your groomsmen’s suits or would you prefer a
subtle difference?
Weddings go either way with this detail, but it should still be considered.
Sometimes you will come across the men in the bridal party wearing the exact
same suit, but a distinction is made by wearing a different accessory. However,
there is also the option of adding a satin lapel to distinguish yourself from
your groomsmen if you do not want to go down the route of having an entirely
different suit.
Tie or bowtie?
Which is your preferred accessory of choice? This choice comes down to
preference. You could wear a bowtie and your groomsmen can wear ties. It
distinguishes you from your groomsmen and establishes a small point of
difference between them. However, there’s also no problem with the bridal party
deciding to wear one or the other.
Depending on the formality of your wedding, you may even choose to abstain from
either accessory.
The takeaway
Choosing the right wedding suit can seem
daunting, but with careful consideration and planning, grooms can find a suit
that not only looks great but also feels comfortable and reflects their personal
style. Remember to take into account the wedding colour theme, the comfort level
of the suit in relation to the season, and whether you want to match your
groomsmen or have a subtle difference
